Dear br. VanTil:

We are writing this letter to inform you that the Consistory of the Canadian Reformed Church of Aldergrove, B.C., in its meeting of November 27th, 2008, decided to proceed with you to a further step of Christian discipline.  Accordingly, if we see no evidence in your life of repentance over the next weeks, the following announcement will be made to the congregation on the second Sunday in January of 2009 during the morning worship service:

With sorrow the consistory has informed you previously that a brother has become guilty of sin against the fourth commandment.  You then heard that he was suspended from the holy supper because he refused to repent.  In spite of continued discipline no true repentance has become apparent.  On the contrary, all admonitions remained fruitless.  The only result was a further hardening of heart.  We have asked the advice of Classis and now inform you with sorrow that we will proceed with the excommunication.  We seriously exhort you to admonish this sinner continually in love. His name is br. Maurice VanTil and his address and phone number are printed in the directory.  Pray the Lord that He may bring this brother to repentance, that this sin may be banned from the congregation and the sinner be saved.

Br. VanTil, Consistory is deeply saddened in having to continue on this path with you. We have been earnestly hoping and praying that your heart would become humble before the Lord Jesus Christ and that so you would have returned with sincerity of heart to faithful participation in congregational life and worship. We are especially saddened that you do not even make allowance for us to visit you unless in the presence of witnesses. In this, too, you show a haughty and arrogant spirit from which you need to repent.

We warn you urgently to repent of your sinful attitude and behaviour. May the Lord grant you the grace to so amend your life that you again become a living member of the church and a faithful brother in Christ.
